'No' way out

According to Jacques Chirac, a "No" vote on Sunday will reduce Europe to a "Simple free trade zone", whilst a "Yes" vote would multiply France’s influence and guarantee French-style social benefits being applied to the whole union. I can think of no better reasons to vote "No"!!

Unemployment rates of 10% across Europe thanks to the French social model are not desirable either.

Why don't you ask Tony Blair or any other pro-Euro MP if this constitution is going to do as Chirac says. They will reply "no, no - it's just a clearing up exercise". Does this mean Chirac is being generous with the truth in order to decure a "yes"? Well if Chirac is, is it not remotely possible that Blair and his allies would be equally generous with the truth?

I, for one, will not be believing a word the politicians say when this debate happens in the UK. I hope everyone else will see through these lies and make up their own mind.

It's as though the Constitution can be all things to all men (and women). Both French and British politicans could be telling the truth about the constituition. France focuses on those areas that will make it most appealing to their population whilst the Tony Blair attempts to do the same to us.

The "all things to all men" idea is what worries me about Europe. Let's be friendly with Europe. Let's have free trade. We could even act together on international issues, if our foreign policies match.

But that is as far as it goes. I do not want Brussels or Strasbourg deciding how much tax I pay, what units of measurement I buy my goods in or even what shape a banana should be. What is wrong with the original idea, of free trade in order to reduce the likelihood of another war?
