Labour's social mobility

If Labour really wants to help 130,000 of the "brightest" young people from poorer families, it should promise to create new Grammar schools in the poorest parts of the UK.

Unfortunately, political dogma trumps common sense across the political spectrum...

Teaching today?

Should Communist Party members be banned from teaching in the UK if they promote class hatred!?!

World class exam results?

Should all 100m sprinters who finish under 10 seconds earn a gold medal at the next Olympics or just the fastest!?!

"More than one in four [A-level] entries - 26.7% - got the top grade"

Social Mobility

What's the point of social mobility if your children face increasing levels of discrimination as your social position improves!?!

Private Schools and Public Benefits

Is the public benefit of private schools currently being investigated by the Charities Commission the £200m of extra funding needed to overcome the shortage of spaces as parents abandon school fees!?!

If only private schools were being abandoned as parents found the same quality of education in the state sector....

Sats boycott

What gives teachers the right to boycott next year's national Sats tests in primary schools?

Any teachers taking part in a boycott should be sacked!

If they are truly worried about damaging a child's education, they should boycott Comprehensives and support the 11+!

Nuffin 'appened at school!

Is the reason so many school children have nothing to say about their school day because literally nothing happened at school that day!?!

Far too many schools are still struggling to get more than 30% of their pupils to be awarded A-C grades at GCSE....

Let's learn about sex!

Are sex education lessons successful when teenage pregnancy rates increase or decrease!?!

Scrapping benefits for teenage mothers would be far more successful!

Education rights and wrong?

Do the middle classes dominate the best schools or are they the best schools because they are dominated by the middle classes!?!

The introduction of lotteries to determine school admissions will simply destroy the best schools whilst failing to improve other schools.

A numbers game?

Should it be obligatory for offenders with poor reading, writing and arithmetic skills to be enrolled on courses to improve their skills in prison?

"The report into adult literacy and numeracy also warned that only one in five offenders with poor basic skills had enrolled on a course to help them."

Golden blackboards?

Is it better to offer £10,000 bonuses for teachers working in the most "disadvantaged" schools or sack teachers who are not up to the job!?!

Sir Cyril Taylor said there were about 17,000 "poor" teachers in England.

Charity and Public Benefits

Have private schools now proved their charitable status on "public benefit" if local councils face additional pressures on their finances as parents switch from private to state schools to save money!?!

Education think

When will education reforms recommend that an image of our "heroic" leader should appear in every class room in the country?

Once upon a time, parents were expected to foster the "personal, social and emotional qualities essential to their health, well-being and life as a responsible citizen in the 21st Century". The state will now be expected to do this!

School admissions

Would "school admission problems remain" if pupils were required to sit an exam to determine which secondary school they should attend!?!

Not Proud of Italy!

As the OECD "ranks the Italian secondary education as the 36th in the world, being significantly below the OECD average", why are the brothers and sisters in Italian teaching unions striking to defend a broken education system!?!

Perhaps they are more concerned about losing 130,000 jobs than educating Italy's next generation!

Naturally, the BBC omits this!

Silence of the Lammys!

When David Lammy wonders why there are still "too few black students studying for a degree in England", does he blame a lack of scholarships to former grammar schools that have retained a degree of academic excellence!?!

"He won an Inner London Education Authority choral scholarship to The King's School, Peterborough."

Poor Grammar Schools?

Is anyone surprised that Grammar schools "take relatively fewer bright, poor pupils than schools that do not select by ability" when they tend to be situated in broadly middle class areas!?!

The best way to overcome this would be to create new Grammar schools in the poorest parts of the country.

It would also have the unintended but beneficial consequence of arresting the current decline in social mobility!

No mor skool spellin

Ow wil chilldren lern propa spellin wenn they ave no tests!?!

There are no alternatives to learning how to spell, you even need to know how to spell to use a dictionary!
