The General Election - A tale of two lame horses and a donkey

How can anyone get excited by a General election that offers the UK electorate so little choice when it needs so much!?!

Whilst Labour deserve to be in the political wilderness for at least a generation given their lamentable record in office, the Tories aren't worthy of being in power either!

What a choice given a skewed electoral system, A-list candidates and marginal constituencies!

And as for the Liberal Democrats, well....

Manchester's Congestion Charge

Do you want other people to pay more tax so you don't have to!?!

Only Mancunians expected to pay the congestion charge should be allowed to vote!

Tories want to come second?

How many businesses can vote in elections? So why are Tories offering tax cuts for businesses rather than individuals!?!
They seem intent on coming second at the next election!

Gordon's crystal ball

Labour will "go on and win" the next general election but will Gordon!?!

"Look, what the people of Britain are concerned about is what is happening to their gas and electricity bills, what is happening to the oil price and the petrol price at the pumps." - Gordon Brown.

Why is nobody concerned about the amount of taxes they pay!?!

Listen and lead?

How many of the voters in the Crewe and Nantwich by-election are demanding reforms to the House of Lords as proposed in the next Queen's Speech!?!

It's barely a couple of days since Gordon Brown had said he would "listen and lead" the British public!

BNP voters

Has anyone welcomed the election of a BNP member to the London Assembly as a victory for democracy and proportional representation!?!

Why should 130,417 voters be denied representation!?! They have as much right to be represented as any other voters whether you consider their politics to be distasteful or not.

They polled twice as many votes as George Galloway's Respect and were only 75,000 votes behind those crazy Greens! The same greens that the major political parties are all trying to embrace!

Mayday!

How do you vote in the local elections when you want to punch Gordon Brown and slap David Cameron whilst ignoring Nick whatsisname!?!

Still no need for electoral reform?

2005 General Election Results:
Labour had 35.3% share of the vote, winning 356 seats with a 66 seat majority.
Conservatives had a 32.3% share of the vote and won just 198 seats.

2009(?) General Election results based on Sunday Telegraph poll!
Conservatives have 43% share of the vote, winning 327* seats with low single number majority.
Labour has 36% share of the vote and win 249 (?) seats!

*324 seats needed to win.

Red Conservatives?

"No question now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which." - George Orwell, Animal Farm.

Tories 'to match Labour spending'
So why vote Conservative when you can look forward to Labour levels of spending and taxes for three out of a probable four year Government following the next election!?!

Holiday votes?

Weekend voting is new hope in the battle to reverse falling turnout - The Times

Even if I was offered a day's holiday to vote at the next General Election, I wouldn't want to use my vote to endorse any of the major political parties!

Qualified majority voting!

If voters are unable to complete a ballot paper correctly, how can they be expected to assess the pros and cons of different political parties!?!

Monday, May 07, 2007

Vive la difference!

When will the UK electorate be offered a right wing leader promising to cut taxes, crime, immigration and welfare whilst shouting "work more to earn more"!?!

By contrast, Britons are offered an inert choice, no wonder turnout never reaches the French 85%!

None of the above!

All my postal votes in today's local elections will be for "None of the above"!

Postal votes

Will Labour Politicians be more concerned that voter turnout will be down 20,000 across a number of Birmingham wards rather than having more confidence in in the final result!?!

Will there now be fraud probes in Middlesbrough, Fife and Lanarkshire, Flintshire, Luton and Somerset?

Electoral Fraud

Why are so many people keen on postal voting at local elections when turnout is traditionally very low?

Requests are up 550% in Middlesbrough, 400% in Fife and Lanarkshire, 600% in Flintshire and more than 200% in Luton and Somerset.

Is it really more convenient to apply for a postal vote than walk to your local polling station or does it represent a significant increase in electoral fraud?

Rewarding electoral fraud?

If political parties are to be funded by the numbers of votes cast for them, will this encourage electoral fraud?

They would receive up to 60p for every vote won at a Westminster election and up to 30p for each vote cast in European or devolved parliamentary elections.

Britain already suffers from electoral fraud that would "disgrace a banana republic"...

Democracy in action?

Gordon Brown will support England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup reflecting opinion polls ‘showing’ widespread public support.

Government supports road-pricing despite petition of more than one million signatures opposing it!
