Driving up standards

If driving tests are to become more difficult to improve road safety, will the penalties for driving whilst unqualified also be raised?

Would it be better if new drivers were prevented from driving cars more than 1400cc in their first year on the road similar to the scheme currently in operation for motorcyclists?

I don't think I'd manage to pass any new driving tests. I'm not sure how many G's I hit when decelerating from 50 to 0 in 150 feet or whatever.

Like everything else this won't improve road safety one jot. As you point out those that can't pass or won't wait will just drive anyway either with a false license or under someone else's.

Just another way to fund more useless bureaucrats.

Bags, it's important that the Government tries to reduce the number of deaths on the road but the policies need to be sensible.

It's not even as though the Government fully penalises drivers driving whilt uninsured. It's not right that it should be cheaper to pay a fine than to buy car insurance!

Good point. What shall we do about it?

Praguetory, the only solution is to penailse the estimated 10% of drivers who regularly drive without a licence or insurance. It would also solve the UK's road congestion at a stroke.

Unfortunately, the UK Government would no longer have an excuse to monitor every vehicle movement in the UK so such a policy would be a non-starter!
