I rather like Trevor Phillips, he is loathed by those on the right and the left alike, abused by loony liberals and some blacks as an Uncle Tom and castigated on BNP sites as another upstart "enricher". That is often an indicator of someone who tries to say the truth as he sees it.
Some apparently black agenda stuff, blacks only schools, complaints on predudice and so on but this is also the man who has said those who want Shariah law should go somewhere else, that we should not be ignoring the huge costs of Africans with AIDS and that white youths can sometimes be an ignored minority too.
That is the value of Phillips and other sensible minority blokes (Sentamu is another sensible bloke, for a Bishop anyway), they are a bit freer than any white man would be to speak out honestly on real issues.
We should have more of it from all prominent figures. We should all be ignoring this ridiculous blackmail, the race card. There is no reason whatever why minorities should be any more immune from criticism than the rest of us.
I remember when Trev's ethnic Indian predecessor got pissed at Lord's (during an England v India cricket match) and started to sort of attack a plod.
The Indian bloke blamed the pressure of work and stuff.... and after a few prods and hints, decided to 'do the right thing' and resigned - disappearing down the road with a golden handshake cheque of several hundred thousand quid..
I thought at the time that it was about time they had a white CEO of the race relations industry for a change - and graciously chucked my hat into the ring. I rang the head office and asked if they could send me an application form...
It must still be lost in the post..... because I cannot believe they gave the job to Trevor Phillips, a TV make-weight from a London television station.... I mean, I wonder what he has that I don't?
