Unreasonable spending?

If John Charman believes that £20m is "impossible for any reasonable person to spend in their lifetime", why is he worried about a £48m divorce settlement that leaves him with just £83m!?!

Yes, I snorted at that too. But, more seriously, what on earth are the courts doing in retrospectively undoing the effect of a trust set up 20 years ago? (Or are we being misled on that?)
