Because people are, frankly, dumb.
There is more opposition and whining about council tax (revenues £20 bn) or Inheritance Tax (£4 bn) than there is about VAT (£80 bn) or income tax/NI (£180 bn).
And El Gobbo has a point - oil prices are going down again and hopefully gas prices will follow.
