Praguetory, it does seem a little harsh. However, when prisoners are selling their medications for money rather than taking them, I wonder if they are necessary in the first place!
That prisoners sell their medication is not surprising. Since Strangeways the State has given up being in charge of prisons - obviously this recklessness/neglect has worsened since NuLabour. Things to mollify prisoners such as cannabis and anti-depressants are all part of the becalming strategy.

There's a lot wrong with the prison system but my first reaction is that this is a little harsh Snafu.
Surely the fact that a child killer is depressed would be a good thing.
