Working hard?

Unemployment has fallen and there are fewer jobseekers claiming benefit, but the number of people classed as economically inactive has reached a record high, new figures showed today.

Yes, there is always a minor problem with all such assertions, the statistical facts - on prison population, benefits, health, housing needs.

I just wish someone saying these things would occasionally explain how they are compatible with those figures and news stories, for example that councils need more money to cope. If they are such a benefit surely the councils should be getting all this council tax from them and need less money.

Xoggoth, councils won't be getting lots more council tax if immigrants are living in overcrowded houses!

Council tax only covers 25% of council expenditure so you can *kind of* understand why councils will still be going cap in hand to the Government...
