Islamgeld?

Why will £1m of taxpayers money really "improv[e] community cohesion and its contribution to preventing extremism" by training Imams in Britain rather than relying on overseas Imams?

Shouldn't the Muslim community be funding it!?!

Can the £2bn annual cost of the UK's anti-terrorism security be reduced by £1m to compensate the taxpayer!?!

WEll it is a first. Taxpayer funds never trained Church of England priests, though Maynooth in ireland did get public funds to train Catholic priests.

I suppose eventually the same demand will be made here as in Germany, for Islam to be treated as of co-equal status with Protestant and Catholic Churches.....no doubt Prince Charles would love this.

Maybe he would be the first King Charles not to risk beheading....but he should remember it was Protestants who were after the other two....making his peace with Islam won't protect him from Protestants

If the Government was proposing to ban foreign Imams from teaching in the UK and would offer this £1m training as recompense it might be justifiable.

As it is, there is no justification for such taxpayer funded expenditure!

What's Gordon's view on all of this? I can only assume that this is one of Tony Blair's reforms that Cameron and Osborne support in the Conservative Party too!
