Moron

Andrew Hawkins has apologised on behalf of his more illustrious ancestor, Sir John Hawkins, for taking part in the "African holocaust", slavery.

How many of the Africans present would be leading better lives in America if only their ancestors had been victims of the slave trade!?!

History 101: The slave trade was started, carried on by and continues to be carried on by North Africans. Africans took the captives, Africans chained them and Africans sold them. Period.

If an African tribe armed with spears could overwhelm a large Imperial force armed with powerful breech-loading rifles, cavalry and long range artillery in 1879, how come they couldn't defeat the handful of sailors from a slave ship crew armed with 17th century weapons 200 years earlier?

Stuart, I agree!

My school history lessons suggested that the slave trade was a triangular route, slaves went to teh Americas, cotton went from the Americas to the English cotton mills and then guns (beads!?!) were shipped to Africa as payment for the slaves...

I just knew that someone wouldn't be able to resist mentioning Isandlwana.

yes, i'm sure the africans present were all wishing that their ancestors had been beaten, raped and then shipped off to a foreign country, only to be forced into slavery! and better still, i bet they were all wishing they could live in a crappy council flat somewhere, have worse jobs, and worse education too! yes, i think you're right, they must all have been wishing their ancestors had been victims of the slave trade! (not)

There are many Africans criminally entering this country in order to benefit from our culture including these 'crappy council flats, worse jobs, and worse education', and that is besides the point anyway, as equally there will have been Africans who grew rich on running the slave trade. When are they going to apologise?

Anonymous, if Africa was such a great place to live, would so many Africans be emigrating to the UK!?!

Why aren't American descendants of slaves demanding to return to Africa!?!

i dont recall saying africa was a great place to live. but it is a well documented fact that ethnic minorities do have the worst standards of living in this country as im sure you already knew.
