Golden blackboards?

Is it better to offer £10,000 bonuses for teachers working in the most "disadvantaged" schools or sack teachers who are not up to the job!?!

Sir Cyril Taylor said there were about 17,000 "poor" teachers in England.

Hey, Why not do both.

It's a tough job so why not offer a golden 'hello'.

Yes, there's the twelve week holidays to recover from stress. But just think, would you really want to stand up every day in front a class up big hairy 10 or 11 year old teenagers (and I am including the girls in that).

You can't sack the bad ones until you know you can replace them with good ones. Good teachers can command a higher salary; why not, it happens in all other professions?

Perhaps you are calling for something more radical - fewer teachers, a much shorter school day, but higher quality - it could work.
