Swiss ban on minarets

Why is the fear of "Vengeance, boycotts, retaliation" an appropriate reason for the Swiss to have voted in favour of minarets whilst a no vote was "inspired by fear, fantasies and ignorance"!?!

The vote was far-sighted. Mainstream Swiss politicians should be questioning why their opinions were so different from the electorate they are supposed to be representing!

Why are politicians the media and the hierarchy so outraged against a democratic vote. These people spout democratic principles but really do not want democracy. They fear true democracy where people make decisions instead of the aristocratic elite.

Why do the media, politicians and the liberal elite express outrage about a democratic vote. These people spout endlessly about their belief in democracy but in truth they are afriad of true democracy. They do not want people to make decisions. They want their own agendas published by the media, espoused at dinner parties and practised by politicians.

Daphne, I agree.

I just wish I could remember the name of the politician who said, without a whisper of irony, that immigration was good for Britain as it meant restaurant meals were cheaper!
